Transfer and Visitor

Transfer Students

Applicants must have successfully completed at least one year of law study at an ABA approved law school, and be in good academic standing. Transfer candidates will be accepted for matriculation only at the beginning of an academic year. For transfer students admitted from ABA accredited law schools, credit for classes in which the student has earned a “C” or better will be accepted, up to 31 credits. Students will be advised of the credits that are accepted for transfer and whether they are applied to required courses before the student is asked to make a commitment to attend Fordham.

Applications may be submitted from March 15, 2020 to June 30, 2020. Applicants applying as a transfer student must submit:

  1. A completed Fordham Law School application, together with the $70 application fee.
  2. A complete law transcript which includes all grades earned in the first year, and any subsequent years of the applicant's law school enrollment.
  3. An official CAS report from the Law School Admission Services (a copy of the report on file in the applicant's law school).
  4. A letter of good standing sent directly from the current law school to the Fordham Law School Office of Admissions.
  5. A statement detailing the reasons why the applicant wishes to transfer to Fordham Law School.
  6. Letters of recommendation are optional (for transfer applicants), but strongly preferred.

Transfer applications are considered during the latter part of July, and applicants will ordinarily receive a decision during the first week of August.

Visiting Students

Applications for Visiting Student status may be submitted from October 15, 2019 to December 16, 2019 for the spring term and from March 15, 2020 to June 30, 2020 for the fall term.

Applicants applying as visiting students must submit:

  2. A complete transcript of all law school work.
  3. A letter from the Dean of the home law school stating that the applicant is in good academic standing and eligible to continue his or her law studies. The letter of good standing should also include a statement setting forth the conditions under which the credits completed at Fordham Law School will be accepted for transfer.
